Tickle Me Finley - Elmo Cake Pops

Last month, Benjamin Finley celebrated his second birthday. Like many 2-year-olds, Benjamin is obsessed with Elmo.

For Benjamin's 1st birthday I made him this Tony Chachere's tee. This year I one-upped myself, or maybe two-dozen-upped myself, with a small army of cake pop Elmos.

I'd been hoping for an opportunity to try out Bakerella's Sesame Street Cake Pops.

First Benjamin was a little scared to eat Elmo.

He got over it.

Eek. Chilled Elmo brains!

Benjamin is rumored to have learned how to say "Elmo Pop." I'm sad his dad, my friend Aaron, wasn't able to get a sound clip.

Cake Pop Success

I tried to take some shots of the Elmo pops myself. It ended up looking like Elmo went to Anthropologie, much like everything else I do.

Paycheee's Pineapple Cake Pops

diagonal pineapple cake pops

To celebrate her 26th, my super sporty friend Paycheee did not have a sports party - instead, she threw herself a suburban luau. No self-respecting luau is complete without tropical themed cake pops.

paycheee pineapples

I wanted to make a roasted pig cake pop or two, but the test pops turned out to be cake (pop) wrecks. They were so ugly that I had to go with pineapples.

5 pineapple cake pops

The pineapple cake pops were a touchdown (I mean, hit) and I think they went perfectly with the coconut bras and plastic leis. A lot of birthday partygoers didn't realize what they were. But they had already been drinking for hours...

Andy Warhol's Birthday Party at the Mohawk

Last weekend I went to Andy Warhol's Birthday Party at the Mohawk.

Andy Warhol's Birthday Poster

Thanks to Trevor Ray Thompson for these great photobooth pictures. I met his sister that night. She has to hold reflectors and be in test shots, just like I do for lil Phan.

These guys were also there. Alex insisted that he hates Andy Warhol. I'm not sure how he got in.

Florent thought the guy on right was Lenny Kravitz.

Lana joined us as Andy (with Mylar balloons).

I think Florent should get the prescription version of those glasses. He looks fabulous.

A girl thought these glasses were my prescription glasses. I had to tell her they didn't have lenses.

This random girl kinda looks like me.

Hey My Blog is Live Again

Chuck and Michele

Hello again. I'm sorry for my absence. My blog has been down for most of last week due to a DoS attack on Posterous. Apparently, I celebrate my bloggiversary by getting hacked.

On a positive note, I'm extending my giveaway by one week. Comment on my anniversary blog post for a chance to win one of my banners. Winner will be chosen next Monday, August 16, 2010. Good luck and happy commenting.

I've been busy (as usual, I suppose). I attended ProductCamp and an Andy Warhol birthday party - two completely different crowds.

My friends Chuck and Michele came into town. I made them eat yummy things - Home Slice Pizza and Gourdough's donuts to be exact. I was camera-less most of the weekend. I didn't want to lug it around and had filled up my memory card. If you'd like, you can check out my first Gourdough's post.

Chuck only likes a few food groups, luckily one of those food groups is chicken tenders. The mother clucker doughnut fit in perfectly in his food pyramid next to pizza and fried cheese. Gourdough's win! Anyone hear anything about any fried cheese trailers coming to Austin in the near future? Or maybe a fried cheese pizza trailer?

Pictures of the Andy Warhol party (from other cameras) to follow.

Friend Friday: Sweet Dessert Magnets by Micah Lanning Porter

I'm starting a new segment called Friend Friday in which I will feature a friend and something awesome that friend does on some Fridays.

For this first Friend Friday I'm featuring Micah Lanning Porter, an old friend. Micah and I have been friends since middle school(!). I once made her husband James alien cake pops.

Micah gave me these sweet dessert magnets for my birthday this year. I love love love them. They are so cute I almost couldn't wait for Friend Friday. I almost posted last Saturday right after I received them. But Friend Friday sounds so much better than friend Saturday. It's the alliteration that makes it.

cupcake magnet

Years ago she gave me veggie magnets. I guess she wanted to balance out the healthy with sugar.

I'm using my doughnut magnet to hold up my Gourdough's menu. Brilliant!

Micah is a very talented lady. She just bought a kiln and says she's going to start an Etsy store soon. I wonder if I can commission a cake pop magnet. Micah, are you listening? Her magnets would make such cute stocking stuffers around the holidays.

Here's Micah's blog My Attempts at Cleverness. She even posted about me once.

Thanks Micah, I love you!

Farm Animal Cake Pops

I'm a vegetarian, so I don't eat animals, but I will eat animal cake pops (and Animal pops!). I never liked that "Do vegetarians eat animal crackers" joke. When it comes to cake pops, yes, yes we do eat animal cake pops.

Fabulous photographer Aimee Wenske and I teamed up for some fun cake pop pictures. This time, we added a chalkboard.

Eek bloody red velvet beef. I guess this guy is rare.

The pigs were our favorite pops.

Sharon Loves These Hello Kitty Cake Pops

So you guys know my friend Sharon, right? Sharon Loves This?

Well, she's getting married this weekend. And I made her these Hello Kitty cake pops for her bachelorette party (which was really a delicious dinner at our favorite restaurant, Vespaio. Sounds like my kind of party.)

red bow hello kitty cake pop

All the girls were enamored by the cake pops. Success! I'll post some pictures from Sharon's bachelorette party at a later date.

I used Bakerella's Hello Kitty cake pop tutorial and adapted the bow. I went with a little pink confetti sprinkle as the middle instead of an M&M mini. The flatness of the sprinkle was definitely easier to adhere to Hello Kitty's cake pop head.

I swear, I almost died from cuteness while I was making these.

I even made a her a personalized cake pop stand.

I'm going to go ahead and say Sharon Loved This.

Robots for Flobot

two bots hanging out on a ledge

My silly birthday celebration ideas tend to get passed at work.

We decorated Florent's decor-free desk with Play-doh sculptures in his honor. There was a time when he borrowed other co-workers' desk decor to seem more like a "real employee." Florent took a framed baby picture and pretended it was his child. Happy Birthday Florent! You get your own desk sculptures.

There's a theory that he's actually a robot from France. This should explain all the robot sculptures.

Some sculptures were better than others.

It's great how much happiness $2 worth* of Play-doh can bring.

*Note: Play-doh was 75% off after Valentine's Day.

That thing on the tofu robot that looks kinda like an anatomical heart is actually a habanero. You do remember Florent eating habaneros, don't you?

Fashion Photo Shoot for Lauren Blazic

My friend Lauren Blazic is a fashion designer who sells appliances by day. You might remember her blending into houndstooth or crafting moustaches with me.

Lauren needed to get her portfolio together at the last minute for an interesting opportunity. I knew of two photographers who would be easily convinced to shoot pictures in trade for cute hair accessories.

We went to Hyde Park (Quack's Bakery, a laundromat, and a park) that Sunday afternoon. Here are some of my favorite pictures from Aimee Wenske and lil Phan.

Sara Janz from Beauty Emporium & Salon did the hair and make up (bad site, good hair). I think her most amazing feat of the day was getting (my) Asian hair to curl. Trick of the trade: use a flat iron (they curl, too).

The appliances get me every time.

I kept this headband.

There was a minor fashion emergency along the way. Chelsea got stuck in her dress and had to be removed with the jaws of life (or by breaking the zipper).

To top it all off, I got to eat this vanilla cupcake with coconut cream cheese frosting at Quack's. You might remember Quack's from my Mmmpanada Misadventure post. The vanilla coconut cream cheese cupcake was just as good as the lemon meringue.

Sharon Loves This Bridal Shower

Sharon & Megan

My friend Sharon is getting married.

Last weekend was her bridal shower. There were lots of Asian ladies at her shower (friends of her mom). Here's a picture of Sharon (and Kyle) with the Asian ladies.

Sharon Kyle & Asian Ladies

There were actually so many ladies, I couldn't fit them into the frame. Sorry other ladies!

Here's Sharon with Ade, a mutual friend who introduced us long before Sharon started her blog. It was after the blog, that we decided we're kinda the same person.

Sharon & Ade

I fully support wedding registries so couples can get what they actually want. But, I broke the rules and made her gift.

Here it is:

Customized appetizer plates!

You can make your own customized plates, too. Here's my tutorial in case you want some guidance.

I had fun drawing for her. I hope she uses them in her new house.
